HPD 10 17CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (10/17/17) — Hopkinsville Police Department arrested two Hopkinsville teens today related to armed robberies that allegedly occurred at two convenience stores earlier this month.

Tequan M. Owen, 18, was charged with two counts of first-degree robbery.

HPD Officer Shannon Wells said in a report that Owen, in complicity with 18-year-old Juandez Bussell, robbed Circle K along LaFayette Road Oct. 4.

Bussell faces three counts of first-degree robbery. Police tied Bussell to another robbery investigation said to have occurred at a Hopkinsville residence in August.

The officer indicated Bussell “acted as the lookout outside the business Oct. 4, while (Owen) went in the store armed with a handgun” demanding money from the store clerk.

HPD reviewed video footage of the incident, according to the report, saying the two involved “are the same individuals form the robbery at the Circle K on Russellville Road the day before. (Owen) is wearing a different pair of shoes on this second robbery, but following execution of a search warrant at the defendant’s residence, these shoes were also recovered.”

In another report, Wells states Owen, in complicity with Bussell, “robbed the Circle K on Russellville Road at gunpoint and left with cash,” as Bussell acted as a lookout outside the store Oct. 3.

During that incident, HPD reported the clerk asked Owen if the action was a “joke,” and then Owen fired a shot. The shell casing was recovered from the scene along with audio and video. Police indicated the voice matches Owen. After the search at Owens’ home, police indicated shoes, a bandana and black pants matching video footage were found. Police reported .380 shell casings were also recovered at the residence.

Wells reported Bussell wore the same dark Nike hoodie during both robberies after analysis of video footage from both stores.

In yet another report, Wells also states that Bussell has been named in complicity with two others to a robbery involving a man at a Kenwood Drive residence Aug. 24 in Hopkinsville. The men kicked the victim several times, took cash and fled the scene in a black Suburban that was pursued by the victim and others until shots were fired at them.

HPD reported the vehicle found at Canterbury Apartments Aug. 28 with the license plate removed belonged to Bussell’s mother. The vehicle tag was found at Bussell’s residence after a search warrant was served. Police also recovered a 9 mm firearm and 40 caliber shell casings.

Bussell was listed as being held in Christian County Jail this evening on $300,000 cash bond. Owen was being held on $200,000 cash bond.
