Gomes 11 14HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (11/14/17) — Hopkinsville Community College  will host Renaldo Ray Gomes for a presentation and book signing beginning 12:05 p.m. Thursday at the Auditorium Lecture Hall.

Gomes is a 2009 graduate of HCC and author of How Adversity Transformed Me into the Ray of Light.

Gomes educates his audience on how to turn tragedy into success, HCC officials announced. He expounds on the adversity he faced after becoming emotionally paralyzed from nerve damage in his neck at the age of 19. He was a broke college student forced to file for bankruptcy at the age of 25. He married, then after his wife suffered two miscarriages, the couple divorced.

According to the book, his life was plunged into a haunting darkness, but Gomes persevered to complete a bachelors in management and an MBA. Through this time, Gomes was also crowned as the 2014 Nashville Top Performer for Latin Dance Competition, and his return to dance and sport became a powerful force of positivity in his life.

In learning how to overcome tough challenges and personal darkness, Gomes sought to empower others with the lessons learned through his personal journey of emotional and physical loss.

In 2017, he became a certified motivational speaker. In his book, readers can be taken on that journey through personal darkness and emerge with actionable insights on how to find the light.
