Gray 11 21

UPDATE: HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (11/24/17) — According to a Christian County District Court complaint warrant, a former Hopkinsville police officer unlawfully served probation violation arrest warrants on a woman Nov. 25 last year in Christian County.

Kentucky State Police DESI West branch in Bowling Green is investigating.

Instead of taking the unnamed woman to Christian County Jail, Daniel Gray, a Hopkinsville Police Department officer at the time, allegedly drove her to Fairview Inn in Hopkinsville, where she resided, and had intimate relations with her in exchange for not being arrested in addition to providing the officer with “good information.”

KSP Detective Brian McKinney noted on the record, the defendant’s actions were “an unauthorized exercise of his official function of having an arrestee in custody.”

Gray told KSP he took the woman to the motel so that she could pick up clothing, and then took her to jail, court records dated Nov. 20 indicate.

The woman gave a statement to KSP describing several sexual encounters with Gray in exchange for not being arrested, the record states.

In addition, the complaint warrant lists Gray admitted to KSP that he had sexual contact with the woman on two occasions. The weekend prior to the total eclipse Aug. 21, Gray and an officer trainee found the woman at American Inn in Hopkinsville, but Gray “declined to serve active warrants on her.”

KSP reported there was probable cause to arrest the officer and charge him with two counts of first-degree official misconduct, which are misdemeanor charges, according to state statute.
