oboro catholicaces football03OWENSBORO, Ky. (11/5/17) — Owensboro Catholic rolled in the opening round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl, leveling visitor Webster County 74-0 at Kentucky Wesleyan College's Steele Stadium on Friday night.

With the win, Owensboro Catholic improved to 7-4 and advances to the second round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl.

Webster County ended its season 1-10 with the loss. 

The Aces started strong and never weakened. Owensboro Catholic scored 27 points in each of the first two quarters to carry a commanding 54-0 lead into halftime.

In a dominant first half performance, Owensboro Catholic amassed 361 yards of total offense.

Helping to lead Owensboro Catholic in the opening half, Vonn Williams rushed seven times for 89 yards and four touchdowns.

Harold Hogg led Owensboro Catholic on the ground, rushing seven times for 133 yards and four touchdowns in the first half alone.

Through the air in the first half, Owensboro Catholic quarterback Drew Hartz was three of five for 83 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively for Owensboro Catholic, Christopher Boarman posted nine tackles and Josh Sloan notched eight tackles.

Owensboro Catholic recorded a defensive touchdown when Jackson Staples returned an interception to the endzone.

Boarman, Spencer Millay and Bryant Tique recorded one interception apiece for the Aces in the victory.

Owensboro Catholic will host Murray in the second round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday, Nov. 10.
