oboro catholicaces football03OWENSBORO, Ky. (11/8/17) — Class 2A, District 2 champion Owensboro Catholic is due to host Murray in the second round of the Class 2A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday night.

The Aces moved to 7-4 after blanking Webster County 74-0 in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3.

Quarterback Drew Hartz leads the way for Owensboro Catholic. In 11 games, Hartz has completed 100-of-170 passes for 1,475 yards and 21 touchdowns. Hartz has been intercepted six times in his 170 passing attempts.

Nick Mills paces Owensboro Catholic in the receiving column. Mills has hauled in 59 receptions for 711 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Vonn Williams has rushed 141 times for 779 yards and 14 touchdowns to lead the Aces on the ground.

Josh Sloan paces the Owensboro Catholic defense with a team-high 158 tackles. Another Owensboro Catholic defensive standout, Nick Blair, boasts 115 tackles.

Murray will bring a 5-6 record into the region semifinals. The Tigers topped McLean County 49-27 in the opening round of the Class 2A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3.

Murray features a balanced offense. Chase Merriss has rushed 218 times for 1,356 yards and 21 touchdowns to lead the Tigers on the ground. Through the air, Murray quarterback Hunter Utley has completed 101-of-207 passes for 1,255 yards and 15 touchdowns with 10 interceptions.

Defensively, Murray has allowed 384 points in 11 games.

Kickoff for the Owensboro Catholic-Murray game is set for 7:30 p.m..
