Henderson County LogoHENDERSON, Ky. (11/8/17) — Henderson County is closing in on a trip to Central Hardin for the second round of the Class 6A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday night.

The Colonels defeated Meade County 21-14 in the opening round of the Class 6A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday, Nov. 3.

With the win over Meade County, the Colonels improved to 5-6.

Offensively for Henderson County, quarterback Skip Patterson has completed 82-of-149 passes for 1,018 yards and four touchdowns. Patterson, who has has thrown only two interceptions, has rushed 171 times for 635 yards and 17 touchdowns for the Colonels.

Dajaun Simpson ranks second in rushing for Henderson County as he has rushed 127 times for 626 yards and five touchdowns.

Defensively, Henderson County is holding opposing teams to 26.9 points per game.

Central Hardin, which captured the Class 6A, District championship earlier in the year, owns an 8-3 record. The Bruins beat Ohio County 42-14 in the opening round of the Class 6A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3.

Central Hardin has outscored opponents 308-170. The Bruins have rushed for 2,694 yards with Jacob Hobbs (715 yards, 12 touchdowns) and Josh Volentine (680 yards, seven touchdowns) leading the way on the ground.

Doubling up and starring on defense for Central Hardin, Volentine leads the Bruins with a team-high 84 tackles.

Kickoff for the Henderson County-Central Hardin game is set for 8 p.m. in Cecilia.
