MARSHALL COUNTY, Ky. (3/18/13) – Eighth Grade students at SMMS had opportunities to explore many possible careers on Friday, March 15, when 34 members of the community volunteered to assist with Operation Preparation, part of a joint initiative of the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development to support schools and districts in improving college/career readiness.
Operation Preparation provides a powerful opportunity for schools, students, parents and communities to collaborate in the college and career planning and advising process.
Using a student’s Individual Learning Plan, including career interest inventory and EXPLORE/PLAN results, trained volunteers met one-on-one with every 8th grade student in a public setting at school to talk about the student’s career aspirations and required education/training.
Students and volunteers alike had a great time while gaining some valuable information and insight.
