LEXINGTON, Ky. (4/25/13) – Bluegrass Volleyball Center (BVC) opened its doors this week as Lexington’s only sports facility that focuses on volleyball. Owner Brenda Tollett first conceived of BVC while playing recreational volleyball.
“I discovered there was no place where volleyball players of all ages, skill levels, and religion were welcome and/or encouraged,” she said. I wanted to find a place where anyone could learn the sport of volleyball, regardless of age, and learn how to play correctly.” BVC offers eight courts total, four outdoor and four indoor. An exciting feature is its two indoor sand courts, the first ones in the region. This will allow sand volleyball year-round.
Players of all ages and skill levels can find their niche at BVC. The facility offers competitive and recreational leagues, drill camps, weekend tournaments, and open court play. Leagues vary from co-ed recreational to advanced doubles.
Anyone looking to develop their volleyball technique can sign up for one of the camps or clinics. BVC has already booked two prolific players, current UCLA volleyball coach Stein Metzger and Olympic silver medalist Destinee Hooker, to lead training camps this summer.
Spectators are welcome. There is an elevated platform for optimal viewing and socialization. Though still ironing out some details, a wide assortment of food and beverages, multiple televisions, and an outdoor tiki bar are in development.
Whether a seasoned veteran or a beginner, players of all skill levels will have the opportunity to improve their game with others passionate about the sport.
“I hope BVC becomes the place where people who love the sport come together to socialize and have fun,” Tollett said. “Players and their friends can have a bite to eat and a bit to drink and celebrate our love for all things volleyball.”
