LEXINGTON, Ky (8/8/13)—Hot weather and cold weather can be hard on people, animals and even things. We were lucky enough in Lexington to have a mild summer, but the change in temperatures doesn’t help the life span of your car.
Tom Dailey, owner of Dailey’s Body Shop and Towing Service said that keeping your car up to date on maintenances is helpful for you and your bank account in the long run.
“Cold weather and hot weather are both harsh on our vehicles,“ said Dailey. “The weather has a great impact on the cooling system and the battery in cars.”
Skipping your car check up is almost as bad as missing an appointment for your own health, the longer you let the problem go the more money it will cost you when it eventually breaks down.
“Car owners can prevent these things from happening by pulling into a reputable shop and have those things checked for very little money,” said Dailey.
Just during the summer months Dailey has worked about 200 breakdowns. His advice? Just listen to your car.
“If it starts acting up or performing differently, that is probably a sign that you have gone to long without a maintenance,” said Dailey. “Because of the economy, people let these kind of things go, but it ends up costing them more money in the end.”
Dailey has been in the car business for over 50 years and to this day he has seen more breakdowns because of the lack of maintenance than anything else.
“I am always on my kids and customers reminding them to check on their car,” he said. “With Kentucky weather being so unpredictable, we have to be aware of the needs of our vehicles.”
