LEXINGTON, Ky. (8/29/13) – In Leadership Lexington Youth, high school juniors interact with community leaders and talk about careers, business opportunities and post-secondary options. Students are selected for the eight-month program after a competitive application process in the spring.
The Class of 2013-2014 boasts 45 outstanding juniors, including 32 from Fayette County Public Schools, which are as follows:
•Bryan Station High School: Desmond Howard, Katie Kuhn, Allison Peoples, Katherine Wright, and Korie Yates
•Henry Clay High School: Ross Boggess, Aaryn Clark, Andrew Hoyt, Saba Khandani, Angela Maske, Sydney Smith, and Sofi Tzouanakis
•Lafayette High School: Amna Al-Jumaily, Ben Eckart, Amelia Giancarlo, Nima Mahmoodi, Brianna Mayo, Mariah Mowbray, Esther Putman, Katie Swim and Zach Thornton
•Paul Laurence Dunbar: Kelsey Folsom, Meghana Kudrimoti, Sahil Nair, Daniel Wahl and Eric Xiong
•Tates Creek High School: Michaela Carter, Raaziq El-Amin, Cassidy Mullins, Tapas Parikh, Josh Rickert and Kylie Russ
•Lexington Catholic: Will Deaton, Chelsea Faught, Courtney Fraher, Lauren Harper, Jacob Jansen, Josi Llanora, Molly O'Mera, Tiana The'
•Lexington Christian Academy: Megan McIntosh, Frederick Rupp
•Montessori High School: Ashley Hayes
•Sayre School: Elisabeth Dawahare, John Newton
LLY will take these diverse students out of school one Wednesday a month to explore various segments of the community and see how they can make a difference. The teenagers will get to know one another and develop mutual trust and respect as they learn to network effectively.
This year’s schedule includes Sept. 4, orientation; Oct. 2, Ambassadors for Change; Nov. 6, Health and Human Services; Dec. 4, Media and Arts; Jan. 8, Mid-Year Development; Feb. 5, Higher Education and Career Development; March 5, Public Safety and Government; and April 9, Reflection and Graduation.
