breakingnews DEV_STORY_300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/11/2013) – At approximately 8:30 this morning, Hopkins County Sheriffs, Kentucky State Police, and Medical Center Ambulance Service responded to calls that a man had been shot by his wife at a residence on Forest Acres Loop in Madisonville.

When SurfKY News arrived on-scene, witnesses said that a female had shot her husband multiple times. The man was immediately transported to Baptist Health for treatment, and the female remained in their residence at 1862 Forest Acres Loop, refusing Sheriff’s Deputies’ requests for her to come out.

At 8:54, Sheriffs forced their way into the rear door of the home. A short time later, it was reported that she had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

Neighbor and friend of the couple, Jimmy Page, identified the two as David and Roberta “Robbie” Marks, both in their late 60s. Page said he had been walking his dog in the neighborhood, as per his usual morning routine, when he heard gunfire. At one point, he said he saw David walking calmly across the street from the Marks’ home, and thought he may have been shooting at small animals.

“I thought maybe, you know, David was shooting at something. I went in with the dog and came back out. I was going to come up here and confront him, and three more shots are fired. Well, here comes Robbie up the driveway walking back to her house, and she said that she shot David. She had the gun in her right hand. It was very visible.”

Forest Acres_ShootingPage said that Robbie went back inside of the residence, and he began to search for David, who had made his way several houses down the street, looking for assistance and finally rousing a neighbor, Steve Brown, for help. Brown told SurfKY News that David’s wounds were severe and that he had been shot multiple times in the torso and face.

Page said that Robbie recently retired from the medical field and David is an on-call pilot for a coal company. He said the couple wasn’t known for arguing or causing disturbances, and the incident took the neighborhood by surprise.

Distraught, Page continued, “I went to their wedding just a couple years ago. They haven’t been married long. We’re all good friends. She comes out and talks to me real friendly, and you just can’t beat him. They’re just good neighbors—you never would have thought …”
