PADUCAH, Ky. (3/15/13) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that John Stigall of Paducah has received a conditional offer of appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. As part of the requirements for appointment, Whitfield provided a Congressional Nomination for Stigall’s admission.
“It is my honor to nominate John Stigall for his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy,” stated Whitfield. “John will follow in his two older brothers’ footsteps by serving in the United States Air Force, and I thank them all for their service. Like his brothers, Bryan and Kevin, I am certain that John will represent the Commonwealth with honor, diligence and class. Their parents, Kevin and Mary, should be very proud of their sons.”
John Stigall graduated with honors from Heath High School in 2012 with a 3.92 grade point average. While in school, Stigall had various achievements, including obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout from the Boy Scouts of America; being named to the National Honor Society; serving on student government; competing on the Heath High School Tennis Team, Paducah Storm Soccer Team and Paducah Indoor Soccer Team; and serving as Vacation Bible School Leader at Concord Methodist Church.
Whitfield also successfully nominated John Stigall’s two older brothers, Bryan in 2008 and Kevin in 2009.
The United States Air Force Academy is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Academy is unique in its dual role as both an Air Force installation and a university. The 10th Air Base Wing provides logistical, medical, fire response, security, civil engineering, family care and medical support across the 18,000-acre installation for a community of approximately 25,000.
