hcc building 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (4/9/13) – Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) has started offering industrial maintenance (IM) courses in a cohort style in an effort to meet the needs of local industries and full-time employees’ schedules. This multi-company approach allows industrial maintenance employees from a variety of companies to work towards IM credentials as a group, taking the same courses at the same time throughout the program.

HCC’s first-year IM cohort, which consist of five courses, will be ending this summer with credentials being awarded to six students: one with PTC Alliance, another with Fredenberg Non-Woven, two with Ebonite and two with WH Manufacturing. The students have covered coursework in basic blueprint reading, technical math, program logic controllers (PLC's), welding, applied fluid power.

“WH Manufacturing will have two employees finishing the first cohort this summer,” explained Dave Pelletier, maintenance manager at WH Manufacturing. “I have been able to see the benefits of the training in both those employees. Those two will continue on with the level II training and we’ll be starting three additional employees into the upcoming level I cohort.”

HCC’s complete IM cohort training takes 2 years. Students will earn six certificates, two at the end of the first year, two in the middle of the training and two at the end of the second year.

Students can take certain portions of the training depending upon their needs. According to HCC’s Community, Workforce and Economic Development Officer Jerry Gilliam, training can be customized to fit companies’ needs. “We have had a large interest in welding geared specifically to industrial maintenance so we will be scheduling additional courses in that area,” stated Gilliam.

Larry Erdman, TPM manager for Ebonite comments on his workers that have studied IM in HCC’s cohort, “I have a mixture of employees with no experience and others with industrial maintenance experience that are taking the IM courses now, and I can see the benefits with both.”

HCC will begin both level I and II industrial maintenance cohorts in June. Interested companies should contact Lea Martin at (270) 707-3895 or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
