MADISONVILLE, KY (10/29/12) – At approximately 1:43 in the afternoon on Sunday, October 28, 2012, the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene of a reported overturned vehicle on KY 138, approximately 2 miles east of the Edward Breathitt Parkway.
Deputies arrived on scene and found a 2005 Ford pickup truck overturned, positioned in the middle of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle, Phillip Bennett, was found to be conscious and was attempting to get his unconscious wife, Linda Bennett, out of the vehicle.
The Bennetts were traveling east on KY138 when the pickup truck traveled off the right shoulder of the roadway and struck a concrete culvert. The culvert caused extensive damage to the suspension and undercarriage of the truck. The truck then traveled back across the roadway, struck an earth embankment, and then began to roll.
Med Center Ambulance Service arrived on scene and began to administer aid to both occupants. The Hanson Volunteer Fire Department, the Sebree Rescue Squad, and the McLean County Central District Rescue Squad also arrived and assisted with the scene.
Hopkins County Coroner Dennis Mayfield arrived on scene and pronounced Linda Bennett deceased. Phillip Bennett was taken to Regional Medical Center and treated for his injuries.
The collision is under investigation and will be reconstructed by Deputy Scott Troutman.
