MADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/14/2013) – At 6:01 a.m., Hopkins County Sheriff’s deputies and Kentucky State Police responded to reports of a tanker truck on fire on Interstate 69 (Pennyrile Parkway) just north of Hanson.
KSP Public Affairs Officer Stu Recke said that the truck was carrying muriatic acid, and a HazMat team was dispatched to the scene.
As of 9 a.m., both lanes of I-69 remain closed between exits 49 (Hanson) and 54 (Slaughters). According to Recke, the closure is expected to last for some time, and detour routes have been established.
Shelia Hopper of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office told SurfKY News that the scene of the single-vehicle incident is being managed by Nick Bailey, Deputy Director of Hopkins County Emergency Management Agency and that a possible brake malfunction may have contributed to the fire.
No injuries have been reported, and SurfKY News will update the story when further details are released by sheriffs and KSP.
