Fire 08 brush fire 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/12/13) – On Sunday, April 14, at approximately 6:02 PM, the Madisonville Fire Department (Station 1) received a call from a Hopkins County resident stating that there was a brush fire in the Grapevine area that was traveling towards the Madisonville city limits, behind Country Club Lane.

Station-1 notified Station-2 via public service telephone and advised Engine-15 to respond to the brush fire. While enroute, Central Dispatch notified F-8 that a resident at 2592 Country Club Lane had called and reported the same brush fire.

Upon arrival, Engine-15 crew observed smoke in the area, but no visible fire, and advised F-8 to send another engine company for manpower. Upon further investigation, Engine-15 crew found that approximately a quarter acre was burning in a wooded area directly east behind 2592 Country Club Lane. The fire was in Grapevine Fire Dept. district. Central advised Madisonville units that Grapevine was on scene, attacking the fire from the east side off of Clair Lane.

Due to high winds the fire was headed toward houses inside the city of Madisonville. Engine-15 and Engine-17 crews deployed 1-3/4" attack line in the wooded area to control the fire. Approximately 600 feet of a combination of 3", 2-1/2", and 1-3/4" hose was deployed.

Fire crews quickly and aggressively brought the fire under control. The fire was contained in that quarter acre area. Fire Command requested Engine-3 for more manpower, and F-1 responded P.O.V. to the scene.

After the fire was extinguished it was found that a power pole had been damaged and F-8 advised Central to notify the proper utility service. Scene was deemed safe and all Madisonville units returned to their stations. Grapevine fire units remained on scene in their district to wait for arrival of Kentucky Utilities to check the power pole.
