POWDERLY, Ky. (9/3/13) – James Best is an actor, director, screen writer, artist, and much like Merle Travis, the Everly Brothers, and the late character actor Warren Oates, Best is a true blue Muhlenberg County native.
Although Best is probably best known for his role as "Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane" on TV's "The Dukes of Hazzard", one of the longest running action/comedies on TV, Best has also starred in over 80 feature films and more than 600 TV shows. His film credits include co-starring roles in films with Jimmy Stewart, Humphrey Bogart, Henry Fonda, Rock Hudson and countless others.
SurfKY News talked with Best via phone in December just before he starred in "The Sweeter Side of Life", a Christmas movie produced by his daughter on the Hallmark Channel.
"I made five movies with Jimmy Stewart; I starred with Humphrey Bogart... heck I worked with just about everyone in Hollywood up to doing 'The Dukes'. I loved working with Jerry Lewis in 'Three on a Couch'. We had a ball. Working with Jerry is a blessing in disguise. He does it all. Acts, produces, he is a total professional," said Best.
With a list of credits that would stretch from one end of Muhlenberg County to the other, you can bet James Best has some remarkable inside Hollywood stories to tell.
He'll share stories from his acclaimed autobiography "Best In Hollywood", along with video clips from some of his many films and TV appearances on September 14 at the Merle Travis Center in Powderly.
There will also be an autograph session as well.
