OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/15/13) – Owensboro Health announced today that it will open the Owensboro Health Pediatric Center at 2211 Mayfair Avenue, suite 202. John Phillips, MD, who joined the hospital’s medical staff in 2009, will begin seeing patients at the center on Thursday, April 25.
The center’s opening is part of Owensboro Health’s ongoing initiative to expand primary care services and improve the health of families and children. It will serve infants, children and teens up to 17 and will accept self-pay, Medicaid and insured patients.
“Opening the pediatric center is part of our ongoing plan to ensure that we provide adequate access to quality care for all ages,” said Ed Heath, vice president for business development and community health. “We see a lot of children without a pediatrician come through the emergency department for primary care needs and this clinic can provide a medical home for them.
“The center also complements Owensboro Health’s initiative to train new doctors, providing a dedicated clinic where pediatricians can complete a portion of their medical training,” Heath said.
Phillips, a graduate of Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Louisville School of Medicine, describes pediatrics as his passion. “I really enjoy working with children,” he said. “I think it is fun to interact with kids as they grow up… to play with babies, make them laugh and do everything I can to keep them healthy.”
Owensboro Health is actively recruiting pediatricians and has a strong candidate that will likely join Phillips later in the year. To schedule an appointment or make arrangements to establish your children as new patients, call 270-688-4480.
