OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/7/13) –Developing a different way of thinking about spending resources in tough economic times, working with business owners to make it easier to pay occupational taxes, and making sure votes of those in the military get counted were three of the topics Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes shared with Chamber members and guests at this morning’s Rooster Booster event.

Grimes said an overseas trip to meet troops serving in other countries led her to work on a bill making its way through the General Assembly that would ensure votes of those in the military cast in local elections would be counted. She said there are a number of reasons why some votes don’t get counted, such as if the ballot is mailed without a postmark or has the wrong address on it.

Grimes also said developing a database to make finding and pay occupational taxes easier is now up and running. Business owners needing to file an annual report have until July 1.
