In the 2012 meeting, UK posted a 1-0 win at Marshall, with the game played at the nearby Hurricane High School, in Hurricane, W.Va., due to construction to the Marshall soccer facility. The win was the second straight for UK, which came against a Marshall team that ranked No. 2 in the NCAA in defense, allowing just four goals in 12 games. UK made a lineup switch and moved defender Dylan Asher to forward for his first career start as an attacker, with Asher netting his first career goal.
