OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/18/13) – This is the sixth in a series of columns submitted to SurfKY News from the youth of Majesty Christian Academy in Owensboro, KY. This article, authored by Kaylee Gilmore, speaks on the huge subject of bullying, from a student’s perspective.

Bullying is, “when a child, preteen, or teen is threatened, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child,” according to a web definition of the word.

When you try to be different, you can be bullied, but when you are yourself, you can also be bullied. What’s wrong with being “you”? Absolutely nothing.

The Bible says, “Delight thyself also in the Lord and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart” - Psalms 37:4. Every man, woman, boy and girl deserve equal rights, equal opportunities and equal dignity without discrimination.

Bullying is also characterized by “an individual behaving in a certain way to gain power over another person.” Did you know that if you turn and face the other way when someone is being bullied, you might as well be the bully? Be the change you wish to see in the world.

Sometimes, you have to be your own hero. Don’t let bullies win. Stand for yourself, stand for others, and stand strong.

I’m Kaylee Gilmore and I WILL stand AGAINST bullying. What will you stand for?
