MUHLENBERG, Ky. (4/30/13) – This past weekend, the Muhlenberg County High School Fishing Team competed in the first ever KHSAA Bass Fishing State Championship at Kentucky Lake.
“We had a total of four teams to make it to the State Championship. There was a total of 45 boats in the tournament,” said Head Coach Cody Napier.
The State Championship was held on April 26th and 27.
Coach Napier stated that the school had two teams that finished in the top 5. Zach Warner and Ridge Porter finished 2nd place with a 2 day weight of 32 lb. and 7 oz. and Jacob Bowles and Hunter Hampton finished 4th place with a 2 day total of 30 lb. and 5 oz.
Also Hunter Hampton won big fish of the tournament with a 6 lb. and 7 oz. bass.
The team had two other boats that finished 31st (Chase Geary and Billy Hardison) and 40th (Michale Engle and Cole Noffsinger).
On day 1, Zach Warner and Ridge Porter were the leaders of the tournament with 16 lb. and 3 oz. and Jacob Bowles and Hunter Hampton was in 3rd place with 15 lb. and 12 oz.
Calloway County was the overall winners of the state championship with a 2 day total of 34 lb. and 4 oz.
