oboro conv2 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (6/10/13) – A volunteer organization that once catered specifically to the local hotel industry is rebranding itself as an opportunity to work with anyone who deals with the general public at any level.

“We want to look at the hospitality association in a completely different way,” said Owensboro/Daviess County Convention and Visitors Bureau Tourism and Development Director Sean Dysinger.

One of the main goals of the association as it undergoes the transformation is to create opportunities to promote local events and programs among people living in and around Daviess County.

“No one visits the tourist attractions in their hometown,” Dysinger said. “For people in their… early 40’s and younger… we want to clue them In to what’s available (in Daviess County).

He said the other target of the new focus of the association is the “service-related industry.”

“We want to show them how hospitality can help with attracting tourists to the community. Money that comes in for tourism is the best source of new money for economic development. Money from people who come in and leave is new money, and the most powerful economic dollars that come into the community.”

Dysinger said the hospitality association is something he hopes people will take advantage of to help promote Owensboro and Daviess County.

“This is a great opportunity to get involved in for two reasons,” he said. “One is networking. Two, it helps people get involved with recreation and leisure activities. When you’re not at work, you’re having a better time (if you’re involved with activities outside the home), and that can’t be a bad thing. I’m a big believer that if you’re having a better time when you’re off, then you’re going to have a better time when you’re on.”

Dysinger said the CVB also offers a “Tourism Awareness Program” designed to help people “see their town through the eyes of a visitor.

The by-laws are in the process of being written and adopted, but Dysinger said he expects they will “be really, really broad,” in terms of how they define who can be a member.

“A lot of people that wouldn’t think of themselves as working in the hospitality business actually are,” he said.

To learn more about the new hospitality association, or to volunteer with the program, visit the CVB website at or call 270-926-1100.
