football-2HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (8/25/14) — Host Christian County and Caldwell County combined for 135 points in a high school football season-opener Friday night.

Visiting Caldwell County managed to win the shootout, defeating the Colonels 78-57 at the Stadium of Champions.

The two teams also combined for 1,393 yards.

Playing on the road didn't faze Caldwell County as the Tigers totaled 780 yards.

The Tigers turned in a balanced offensive performance. Caldwell County senior quarterback Elijah Sindelar, who has committed to Purdue, completed 27 of 42 passes for 433 yards and five touchdowns. On the ground, Caldwell County running back Jaylen Boyd rushed 17 times for 293 yards and four touchdowns.

Caldwell County outscored the Colonels 20-8 in the opening quarter and led 34-29 at halftime. Christian County, however, battled back to lead 50-48 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

Finishing strong, Caldwell County outscored the Colonels 30-7 in the final quarter to claim the win.

The story of the game could have been the play of a first-year quarterback from Christian County. Turning in an offensive-heavy performance of his own, Christian County freshman quarterback Kolbe Langhi completed 20 fo 35 passes for 359 yards and five touchdowns.

Christian County receiver Keyron Catlett hauled in 11 catches for 212 yards. Fellow receiver Ziyon Kenner caught seven passes for 144 yards.

Together, Catlett and Kenner combined to haul in five scoring receptions.
