Cadiz Police Partners with Local Merchants for Safer Halloween

trickortreat1 300CADIZ, Ky. (10/29/13) - The Cadiz Police Department has partnered with several local merchants to provide free safety glow bracelets to children who visit us during the Cadiz Halloween Safe Night 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday.

The neon bracelets will make children more visible during trick or treating. Merchants partnering with the Cadiz Police Department to make this possible include Trigg County Farm Bureau, Fred's Discount Store, State Farm Insurance, H.B. Quinn, Attorney; Goodwin Insurance, Hancock's Neighborhood Market, Lake Barkley Insurance and Trio Signs.

Visit the location in front of Cadiz City Hall Thursday for free neon safety bracelets.

As part of the Traffic Safety Program, the Cadiz Police Department will begin to strictly enforce improper passing on Main Street, to include passing on the right of a stopped vehicle.

KRS 189.340 states the operator of a vehicle may overtake and pass another vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such movements in safety. Such movement shall not be made by driving off the roadway unless passing vehicle comes to a complete stop and such movement may be made safely;
(a) When the vehicle overtaken is making or about to make a left turn,
(b) Upon a roadway with unobstructed pavement of sufficient width for two,
(c) or more lines of vehicles moving lawfully in the direction being traveled by the overtaking vehicle.

The main problem areas are Main Street between Hospital Street east to Lakota Drive and the U.S. 68 bypass at the Lakota Drive intersection. In an effort to cut down on traffic crashes caused by improper passing, the Cadiz Police Department will begin to enforce and issue citations to those motorists who pass on the right without coming to a complete stop first.
