trace center3 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (9/11/13) – Today marks the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In the American eyes it was a surreal, coldblooded and devastating day that will forever change the way the American people viewed humanity. It’s a day most American’s won’t forget.
 
On September 11, 2001, 19 militants that were associated to Islamic extremist group, al-Qaeda, hijacked four planes and carried out suicide attacks against certain U.S. targets. Two airlines were crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, the third airliner hit the Pentagon just outside Washington D.C. and the fourth airliner crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.
 
The attacks resulted in abounding deaths and destruction that triggered major U.S. initiatives to contest terrorism and define the presidency of George W. Bush.
 
That night, President George W. Bush delivered a televised address from the Oval Office, declaring, “Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve."
 
In a reference to the ultimate U.S. military response he declared, "We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them."
 
Over 3,000 people were killed in both the New York City and Washington D.C. attacks and more than 400 police officers and firefighters.
 
SurfKY News asks that our citizens take a moment today and remember those that lost their lives, gave their lives and lost loved ones on that fateful day.
