Whitfield Announces over $546,000 for Richland Volunteer Fire Department

vol fire fighter 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (4/20/13) – U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that Richland Volunteer Fire Department in Hopkins County is a recipient of an Operations and Safety funding grant secured under the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“It’s so important that first responders have the resources they need to serve our communities,” stated Whitfield. “I congratulate Richland Volunteer Fire Department receiving this award.”

Richland Volunteer Fire Department will receive $546,365.00 in funding. The purpose of the AFG is to award grants directly to fire departments and Emergency Medical Services organizations (EMS) that are unaffiliated with a hospital to enhance their ability to protect the health and safety of the public, as well as that of first-responder personnel. Using a competitive process that is overseen by fire service subject matter experts, grants are awarded to applicants whose requests best address the priorities of the AFG program.

More information can be found on the web at http://www.fema.gov/firegrants.
