One Injured When Vehicle Strikes Deer, Tree

accident with injuries ambulanceDUNMOR, Ky. (5/11/14) — A Dunmor man was injured in a one-vehicle accident after he lost control while trying to avoid hitting deer at 10:59 p.m. Saturday, May 10 on Kentucky 949.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, Richard Hays of Dunmor was driving a 2009 Kia Optima north on Kentucky 949, when several deer entered the road. Hays swerved to miss the the deer but struck one. His vehicle exited the right side of the road, where he then struck a tree.

He was transported by ambulance to Muhlenberg Community Hospital for treatment. Hays was wearing a seatbelt and there no passengers involved.

Trooper Jacob Fortney investigated the collision. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff’s Department, Dunmor Fire Department and Muhlenberg County EMS assisted at the scene.
