Luzerne Lake Fishing Day

GREENVILLE, Ky.(6/14/14) — The fish were biting at Luzerne lake Saturday as the annual Take a Kid Fishing Day took place.  

Tommy Barton, director of Muhlenberg County Parks and Recreation, estimated the crowd at the park between 400 to 500 attendees.  The crowd sported a lot of happy children enjoying the day with their families.  

Since prizes were given away for both the smallest and largest fish, children were excited with any catch they made.  

Five-year-old Baxter Love, after catching a 15 inch and 18 inch catfish said, "Fishing is awesome."  

Just a few feet away 4-year-old Jaxon Blunt explained that, "You can't eat the worms because they’re for the fish."  

It took a lot of people to put on the event with Atmos Energy supplying free food for everyone  while First Kentucky Bank supplied the bicycles for prizes.  The addition of a mobile food cart insured that everyone could share in the food without leaving their fishing spot.  

The 4-H Club supplied a mule team and wagon for children to ride on.  

The winners of the fishing contest were as follows:

In the 3-5 year olds: Lea Suttle, longest fish; Derrick West, smallest fish; and, Asher Plumber, most fish caught.

In the 6-8 year olds: Brooklin Wise, longest fish; Dawson Heimer, smallest fish; Isabella Oneil, most fish caught.

In the 9-11 year olds: Brooklyn Ewing, longest fish;  C.J. Kyle and Savannah Ward (tie), smallest fish; and, Justin Dockery, most fish caught.

In the 12-15 year olds: Cane Morris, largest fish; Alex Sorrels, smallest fish; and, Joseph Dockery, most fish caught.
