support military family 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (4/9/13) - On Saturday, April 6, Sgt. Michael Cable, who was killed in Afghanistan last week, was laid to rest during a funeral that numbered hundreds of participants in attendance to show their support of the soldier and his family. Across town from the funeral home, many local businesses came together at a fundraiser hosted by local bar and grill Pan Head Fred's.

An estimated 2,500 people came to Pan Head Fred's throughout the day to eat BBQ, participate in the silent auction, and ride in the poker run coordinated by Pan Head Fred's. On Monday, the manager of Pan Head Fred's, Lisa Schwoeppe, told SurfKY News that $3,143 was raised by the poker run and silent auction. The funds will be given directly to the Cable family.

Attendees at the fundraiser said that they came out Saturday simply to show support to the Cable family.

"We just want that young man's family to know that our community cares about them and that we appreciate what he did," said Pan Head Fred's owner Fred Embry.

More than 800 bikers attended and many rode in the poker run, which had stops run by such local businesses as Show-MEs and the Boiler Room.

Other area businesses such as Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Budweiser, and McGrady's Bar and Grill also provided food, drinks, and merchandise for the silent auction.
