oboro dance theatre 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/4/13) - The Owensboro Dance Theatre is looking for male and female dancers, gymnasts, and performers ages six to14 to audition for extra roles for the December production of “The Nutcracker.”

“The Nutcracker” has been a successful holiday tradition for Owensboro locals and the Owensboro Dance Theatre alike, selling out the last four years. Originally performed with all ballet dances, the ODT uses ballet, modern, jazz, and tap dances, and also gymnastics for their storytelling. The version is their “own take on the traditional story”, says Allison McCoy, Assistant Artistic Director for ODT.

“We are always really looking forward to it,” McCoy said. “We are so happy it’s become a tradition in Owensboro.”

Visitors will see six guess artists who are all professional dancers, with more than 200 people in the whole production. This year, audiences will also see a brand new back drop.

Kids and parents interested in being an extra are asked to come to Johnson’s Dance Studio on Breckinridge St. in Owensboro, from 7 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10 to fill out paper work, get a number, and perform a short dance of their own for the audition.

The Nutcracker will be performed at the RiverPark Center on Saturday, Dec., 7 at 7 p.m. The Owensboro Dance Theatre will also be doing two productions at area schools.
