UK Climbs Four Spots on Day Two

golf courseLEXINGTON, Ky. (3/4/14) — Seniors Cody Martin and Ben Stow each turned in under par rounds during the second round of the Querencia Cabo Collegiate to help the University of Kentucky men’s golf team move up four spots in the team standings.

With one day remaining, UK sits in fourth place with a team score of 17-over par, 585. Final round action begins Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. ET.

The Wildcats regrouped after a first round team score of 14-over par, thanks in large part to extremely windy conditions, to post a three-over par, 287 on Monday. No. 11 Houston sits atop the standings at five-over par, 573, while Baylor (+9), No. 1 Alabama (+10), No. 16 Vanderbilt (+18) and SMU (+18) complete the top five. Houston’s Roman Robledo leads all players at six-under par, 136.

Rounding out the rest of the team standings were LSU (+22), No. 17 Arkansas (+27), Chattanooga (+28), Ole Miss (+33), Lamar (+33), UT Arlington (+35), Coastal Carolina (+39) and Abilene Christian (+71).

“We had a terrific round today,” said UK head coach Brian Craig. “Cody (Martin) and Ben (Stow) played really solid golf on a tough Querencia course. Playing here will make you better and we are improving.”

Martin turned in the low round of the day for Kentucky with a three-under par, 68. After recording just one birdie in the first round, the Union, Ky., native finished with five birdies and just two bogeys in the second round. Stow registered a one-under par, 70, behind a trio of birdies on the day. Martin and Stow are currently tied for sixth place at two-over par, 144, as the final round approaches.

Senior Stephen Powers remains in the hunt after two rounds with a three-over par, 145, and just one spot behind Martin and Stow. Powers entered the day tied for ninth and left the course tied for ninth after a two-over par, 73.

Junior David Snyder is tied for 56th at 13-over par, 155. Snyder turned in a scorecard of five-over par, 76, for the second round. In 67th place is junior Will Bishop with two-day tally of 18-over par, 160. He finished the day with a 13-over par, 84.
