LEXINGTON, Ky. (7/15/13) – Klarke Turner, a rising junior at Lafayette High School, won first place in the Kentucky Psychiatric Medical Society Foundation's latest Theresa L. Walton Essay Contest.
The annual "When not to keep a secret" competition is open to ninth- and tenth-graders throughout the state. Each school may submit as many as three entries, and about 150 essays are received each spring. The 2013 topic was "You want to respect confidence, but what if the secret is dangerous or frightening? What should you do? Who should you tell, and when is it all right not to keep a secret?"
Klarke received an iPad for her prize-winning fictional entry, and Lafayette psychology teacher David Bates received a $250 gift card.
