Hopkins County Students Rank Top 4 in Mars Rover State Competition

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (5/15/13) – Two teams from Hopkins County Schools placed among the Top 4 in the Mars Rover Design Challenge state competition on Saturday, May 4.

Eighteen teams from six school districts competed at the University of Kentucky student center.
 
Team Future X5 from West Broadway Elementary placed 3rd. Members are Zoe Larkins, Ella Farmer, Krey Cunningham, Noah Cook and Dylan Honeycutt. Coach is Joanna Odum.
 
Team Hanson Black from Hanson Elementary placed 4th. Members are Brooke Anderson, Makayla Koon, Seth Daniel, Joshua Guess and Joshua Gibson. Coach is Tammy Eli-Carver.
 
A team from Jesse Stuart Elementary also qualified to compete at the state level. Ed Milum, Project Lead the Way instructor at Madisonville North Hopkins, coordinated the local contest, held April 20.

Sponsors included Lockheed Martin, Council on Postsecondary Education and Project Lead the Way Kentucky.
