U.S. Supreme Court Decides Robert Woodall Won't Get New Sentencing Trial

WoodallMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (4/23/14) ― The Supreme Court of the United States has said there will be no new sentencing hearing for Robert Keith Woodall, who confessed to the death of a 16-year-old Muhlenberg County girl in 1997.

In a 6-3 ruling Wednesday, the federal ruled that Woodall's death sentence for kidnapping, raping and murdering the Sarah Hanson, when he abducted her from the Minit Mart in Greenville.

The 6th District Court of Appeals had upheld a federal ruling that the judge in the murder trial should have instructed the jury to not draw negative conclusions from the fact Woodall did not take the stand in the 1998 sentencing hearing.
