OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/25/13) – A 16-year-old male juvenile faces charges of third degree burglary and arson following investigation of an incident by Owensboro Police yesterday afternoon.
According to Owensboro Police, authorities were called to respond to report of a “suspicious person” at the site of First Christian Church, located at 700 Miller Boulevard. The church caught fire last week and has been closed to the public since then.
Authorities said upon arrival, officers observed smoke inside the church and determined that several small fires were burning. Owensboro Fire Department was called to the scene to extinguish them. Authorities said the fires caused minimal damage.
Further investigation by OPD detectives revealed that a male juvenile had unlawfully entered the premises. The juvenile allegedly started the small fires and stole food items from the location.
The juvenile was transported to the Warren Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
