Blue Collar Comments – Spend, Spend, Spend

bluecc300 AHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (7/6/13) – Here we go again with “loan options for sports complex.”

When is the spending going to stop? We have three black holes and the Sports Complex is one of them. Now, the Fiscal Court committee is exploring a $3 million dollar loan!

We, the people of Hopkins County, elect the magistrates. The only thing I see is Hopkins County is going into the red!

The coal severance tax is coming to the top again. We have given the library a half a million dollars in coal severance tax funds over the years to work on the third floor of the library. What do we have to show for it? Nothing! We have two buildings that have been sold for $1.00 each.

One of these days the coal severance tax fund is going to not be there. Then what will Hopkins County do?

Mortgage rates are still climbing. The fiscal Court Committee is seeking bids for a $3 million dollar loan. Now the county jail bond is going to be retired in 2020. That will let go of $894,000.00. That is only seven years from now. Seven is a lucky number, but not so much in this case. On top of all this, officials have estimated that it would take an addition six million dollars to fully develop the black hole…I mean, the Sports Complex.

It sounds like the citizens of Hopkins County have elected magistrates that like to spend our money. It doesn’t matter what for, but they just like to spend, spend and spend. Then, when the bottom falls out, then who has to save the Fiscal Court? The tax payers do! We will have higher taxes and nothing to show for it aside from debt.

Let me ask the people of Hopkins County a question. When is the spending going to stop? Are we going to wake up one morning and be broke? I pay city and county taxes. Why does all this money have to be dumped into a black hole?
