dcps1 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (8/30/13) -- Tax rates won’t be raised for the 2013-2014 school year, and will continue at the same rate as last year: 61.2 cents on real and personal property and 49 cents on motor vehicles, the Daviess County Board of Education decided at Thursday’s meeting.

The Class of 2013 ACT test scores have been released and Daviess County and Apollo High School are either right on target or slightly above the state scores in all subjects. The composite scores for the district were 19.6 and the state scores were 19.2. The composite average for Apollo High School was 19.0 and for 19.4 for Daviess County.

Superintendent Owens Saylor is pleased with the smooth start to the 2013-2014 school year, saying the district is “off to a great start”. He said he has conducted two-hour visits with the principal of each school discussing their visions are for the new year and what they need to make the year the best it can be.

The next school board meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 3 at 6 p.m.
