Performers, Fans Celebrate Annual 'Big O Music Festival'

big o1OWENSBORO, Ky. (9/2/13) – The “Big O Music Festival” certainly lived up to its name Saturday night as thousands traveled to hear and meet their favorite country artists. Although the day brought temperatures well into the 90's, it didn’t keep many fans away.

Anne-Tyler Wilkerson of Henderson said she simply loves the “Big O Festival.”

"It is worth the hot weather, long lines, and all day wait just to see your favorite artist," Wilkerson said.

Many of those who spoke with SurfKY said they were most looking forward to seeing headliner Jake Owen perform. Even though music festivals seem to be about watching the performers, this year's lineup was equally happy to see their fans.

"I love watching people have a good time and sing along to my music. At the end of the day, that's what it's all about," RCA recording artist Owen said.

Owen isn’t the only “Big O” performer to recently headline a show in Kentucky. "Small Town U.S.A." singer Justin Moore kicked off and wrapped up his “Outlaws Like Me” tour here in the Bluegrass State as well.

"It was a blast and an opportunity of a lifetime to get to go out and play an arena with your name at the top of the ticket," Moore said. "It was a dream come true."

Although this may have been Moore's first time playing the “Big O,” it was not a first for Average Joe's Entertainment recording artist Colt Ford.

"I love you, Owensboro," Ford said. "They have always been so good to me. I want to play this festival every year."

The 2014 lineup hasn’t been released, but performer Kristen Kelly hopes the community will continue to support country music.

"Owensboro, thank you for the warm welcome," Kelly said. "I've had a good time today and we appreciate the support."
