Henderson County High School Develops ‘Freshman Initiative’

fresh ini3HENDERSON, Ky. (10/2/13) – The Freshman Initiative at Henderson County High School strives to enable and empower each ninth grade student to reach his or her highest academic potential, to prepare a plan for graduation, to become involved in the local community, and to transition successfully into high school life.

In August the Freshman Initiative showed their appreciation to active service men and women by baking chocolate chip cookies and delivered them to emergency personnel in the community.

In addition, the Freshman Initiative volunteered at the John James Audubon State Park Arts & Music Festival. The freshman helped with the special needs students from Daviess, Henderson, Union and Webster counties by assisting with t-shirts creations, playing musical instruments, participating in sing a longs and helping make pottery. Students also helped clean up after the festival.

All Freshman Initiative activities and field trips are made possible through money received from volunteers working bingo in Henderson, Kentucky.

For more information contact Derika Lynam-Spaetti, Henderson County High School mathematics teacher, at 270-831-8800.
