Road Projects Totaling Over 7.14 Million Let in Tri-County Region

asphalt2 kytrans 300FRANKFORT, KY (9/3/13) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet last month awarded bids for road construction projects in Muhlenberg, Hopkins, and Christian counties, State Rep. Brent Yonts said today.

All bids were from the Aug. 16 letting in Frankfort.

“These are mainly blacktop resurfacing and guardrail projects, all of which are sorely needed to keep our state road and interstate system up to par,” said Yonts, D-Greenville.  “I am very pleased, as always, to announce that our state roads and our interstates are getting the attention they need and deserve.”

The most expensive project from the Aug. 16 letting is for blacktop rehabilitation on the Edward T. Breathitt Parkway from mile point 37.07 to mile point 42.418 in Hopkins County.  The project was awarded on Aug. 29 to Road Builders LLC at a low bid of $2.663 million.

In Muhlenberg County, the Cabinet awarded two blacktopping projects totaling over $1.2 million.  Both projects were awarded to Road Builders LLC, which was the only bidder, according to Cabinet records.  One project, totaling over $497,560, will involve blacktopping 5.85 miles of KY 181 from the Todd County line north to the south end of the Carter Creek Bridge.  The other, totaling over $771,530, will involve: Blacktopping 1.87 miles of KY 853 from KY 189 southeast to the end of the bridge over Long Creek; 3.97 miles of KY 853 from Cave Springs Road east to Drake Road; and 3.17 miles of KY 2270 from 3 miles north of KY 973 northeast to US 431.

The Cabinet also accepted bids for a guardrail project on I-24 in Christian County that will begin at the Trigg County line and extend east to the US 41A underpass.  George B. Stone Co. offered the low bid of $2.09 million, although the bid had not been officially awarded by Tuesday afternoon.

Remaining projects awarded by the Cabinet last month in the tri-county region were in Hopkins County, with work on one project extending into Webster County. The projects, winning bidders, and dates the bids were awarded are:

-- Blacktopping of specific routes in Hopkins County. The winning bidder is Road Builders LLC with a low bid of $708,174.93, awarded on Aug. 29. The specific routes under bid are: Coiltown Road, a distance of 2.15 miles from 0.842 miles south of John Lansden Road north to KY 1034; Cross Street, a distance of 1.42 miles from Flat Creek Road southwest to US 41; Rose Creek Road, a distance of 2.66 miles from KY 2280 east to KY 502; Rose Creek Road, a distance of 2.89 miles from KY 630 east to KY 1178; Weldon Road, a distance of 0.65 miles from KY 138 north to KY 370; and Wells Road, a distance of 0.57 miles from West Gamblin Cemetery Road east to 0.570 miles east of West Gamblin Cemetery Road.

-- Blacktopping of Edward T. Breathitt Parkway in Hopkins and Webster counties. The winning bidder is Road Builders LLC with a low bid of $2.570 million, awarded on Aug. 22.  The project involves resurfacing of the parkway--with milling and asphalt inlay--from 1.89 miles south of the Webster-Hopkins county line north to the Webster-Hopkins county line, and resurfacing of the parkway with milling and inlay from mile point 55.003 at the Webster-Hopkins county line north to the bridge over Deer Creek (mile point 59.289).
