walmartmcdonaldsHOPKINS COUNTY, KY (12/23/11)—For the last several years, consumers shopping in Hopkins County and the western Kentucky region were able to grab both a new item and a fast meal from Madisonville, KY’s Wal-Mart Supercenter location, yet official sources now indicate that this won’t be the case in upcoming weeks.

Though several rumors are floating around local Hopkins County and western Kentucky internet forums/social networking sites regarding the closure of the McDonald’s within the Wal-Mart location, several reliable parties employed by the corporation confirmed that the hearsay was, in fact, completely true.

One high-ranking McDonald’s employee, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that, “Our contract with Wal-Mart will be up at the end of the year and we’re not going to be renewing it. We will be completely removed from this location on January 31st, 2012.”

When asked about the reason for the decision, several employees of Madisonville’s Wal-Mart and the McDonald’s within the location, including the source mentioned above, explained that all the McDonald’s restaurants across the country will be leaving the department store in search of other opportunities.

However, a national shift in the two corporations’ relationship has yet to be publicly confirmed by either of the parties’ headquarters and/or media relations department.

While it’s a sure thing that the McDonald’s site within our local Wal-Mart Supercenter will be “no more” by January next year, inside sources stated that the location’s current employees will be offered positions with Madisonville’s North Main Street restaurant.
