yonts d 300KENTUCKY (2/13/13) – Over $424,900 in project and service contracts and agreements for the Pennyrile region were approved by the legislative Government Contract Review Committee today.
 
Rep. Brent Yonts, D- Greenville, a current member and former chairman of the committee, said total funds approved include $250,000 in coal severance money to pay for testing fees, advertising, and administration of the Madisonville Community College Workforce Training Program. The funding will be administered by the Hopkins County Fiscal Court, said Yonts.
 
“Workforce training is critical to our region as we push for job creation in the wake of the recession,” said Yonts. “This funding will be extremely useful toward that end.”
 
In all, $295,250 was approved for projects and services in Hopkins County, $46,514 was approved for needs in Christian County, and $83,157 was approved for needs in Muhlenberg County. Funding approved by the committee, excluding approval of funding for the MCC Workforce Training Program, is as follows:
 
• $75,000 in coal severance funding awarded to Muhlenberg County Water District #3 to replace an undersized water main on Clark Street with PVC pipe. The project will include five new hydrants and will improve service to 45 customers.
• An additional $42,542 in state General Funds awarded to the Christian County Board of Education due to an increase in enrollment at the technical education center.
• $15,250 in tobacco funds awarded to MCC for early childhood education.
• An additional $8,157 in state General Funds awarded to Muhlenberg County Board of Education due to an increase in enrollment in career and technical education.
• $25,000 in coal severance dollars awarded to Hopkins County Fiscal Court for the City of Dawson Springs’ floodplain project.
• $5,000 in coal severance dollars to Hopkins County Fiscal Court to pay debt service on equipment at Grapevine Fire Department.
• An additional $3,960 in agency funds to be paid to Kem Duguid & Associates of Hopkinsville for assisting the State Auditor with three fiscal court audits.
• Extend the time on water project agreements with Muhlenberg County Water District and Muhlenberg County Water District #3 to June 30, 2014.
• Extend the time on an agreement with the Pennyrile Area Development District for distribution of benefits for those who apply to the Traumatic Brain Injury Trust Fund for assistance to June 30, 2013.
• Amend the scope of work included in the $250,000 agreement for workforce training through the MCC Workforce Training Program to include technology upgrades including, but not limited to, computers and a printer.
