(2/6/14) — A truckload of chickens were the only casualties of a single-vehicle collision on Kentucky 181 about 3:35 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5 near Bremen.

According to a Kentucky State Police report, Dennia Johnson, 49, of Houston, Miss., was operating a a 2004 Mack tractor-trailer hauling chickens headed west on Kentucky 2584 when she attempted to make a left turn onto Kentucky 181 to head south. The rear tires of the trailer dropped off the left shoulder of the roadway, which caused the unit to overturn. It blocked both lanes of Kentucky 181.

Johnson was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt.

Trooper Craig Engler investigated the collision. He was assisted at the scene by Trooper Jonathan Ward, the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, the Bremen Volunteer Fire Department and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

It is unknown how many of the chickens were salvaged and how many died.

The debris and chickens were removed from the roadways by mid-morning Thursday, Feb. 6.
