MORTONS GAP, Ky. (6/10/13) – Central High School archer Jericho Vannoy, will be making his way to South Africa to compete in the first “All-Star NASP World Championship” in July 22-28, 2013.
Vannoy was recently crowned the National Champion in the National Archery Competition that was held in Louisville, and with this accomplishment Jericho has made the National Archery All-Star Team. All the participants will have the opportunity to perform shooting demonstrations, teach archery to the local children, compete against top archers from around the world, and the chance to explore the wildlife of South Africa. “This is going to be an incredible athletic and educational opportunity for Jericho, and I know that he is honored and excited to represent Hopkins County and the state of Kentucky,” stated Dave Starks, HCCHS Archery Coach.
Vannoy has also won the NASP National Archery Championship top male shooter, shooting a 298 out of 300, won a 5000.00 scholarship, a Yellow Competition Bow, and another Matthews Bow of his choice, 2 archery Targets, a National Championship Ring, a plaque and a 1st Place Trophy.
“We are very proud of Jericho. Archery is an awesome sport to be in our school systems and has lots of opportunities to go along with it. South Africa is a chance of a lifetime, and a chance to get to help teach the children in Africa everything they know about Archery. I believe Jericho will come home with a different perspective of helping others also,” Lori Vannoy expressed. “I wanted to express my Thanks to Coach David Starks for all his love, care and concern for not only Jericho but for this sport and the team at Central. He is an awesome Coach and he has really been there for Jericho and helped him in so many ways. Jericho wouldn’t have made it this far without Coach.”
In order for this experience to happen, Vannoy would need donations that will be used to help with travel expenses. Flight costs to Johannesburg, SA range from $2,200 - $2,800 for round trip and Jericho and his family are responsible for the cost of the flight.
“I am looking forward to this experience in South Africa but in order for me to get there, we have to raise money and take donations,” expressed Vannoy.
Dave Starks would like the community to know, “I appreciate any consideration you can provide to Jericho’s endeavor. Your support means a great deal to me, Jericho and his family.”
