Kiwanis Club Fulfilling Motto 'Serving Children of the World'

kiwanis club 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/29/13) – The Kiwanis Club of Owensboro is sponsoring a new fundraising event in downtown Owensboro this summer. The Walk of Honor will line the Daviess County Courthouse lawn from Friday, June 7, to Sunday, July 7.

“Members of the community can purchase 3x5 American flags on eight foot poles in honor of someone who has made a difference in their life,” according to event co-chairman Steve McFarland, event co-chair and former Kiwanis Club President.

Flags can be dedicated to parents, teachers, pastors, soldiers, Sunday school teachers, coaches, police officers, or whomever.

The event will open on Friday, June 7, with a memorial ceremony on the courthouse lawn at 5:30 p.m.

All funds raised from walk of Honor will support local children’s organizations such as Wendell Foster Campus, Girls, Inc., Buddy Ball, and Puzzle Pieces.

In the past, funds raised by the Owensboro Kiwanis Club have built the twelve and under Basketball court at Legion Park, donated books to local elementary school libraries, and, in partnership with the city, built the spray park at Smothers Park.

“We believe the Walk of Honor will present a very good theme for downtown Owensboro, especially with what is going on in downtown development,” said McFarland

Memorial flags may be purchased at 1 flag for $40, 2 for $70, or 3 or more for $30 each.
