racers football1 300MURRAY, Ky. (6/9/14) — Murray State head football coach Chris Hatcher was one of 10 inductees into the inaugural Gulf South Conference Hall of Fame class, it was announced Monday.

Hatcher made a major impact in the GSC as a player and a coach at Valdosta State. As a player, Hatcher set 13 GSC and 17 NCAA Division II records. He ended his career as a two-time All-America, and was the recipient of the 1994 Harlon Hill Trophy, honoring the top offensive player in Division II. His accolades were not limited to the field as he was also selected as the 1994 CoSIDA Academic All-America Player of the Year in 1994.

The Macon, Georgia, native was inducted into the Division II Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. He was also named to the 1990-99 GSC Team of the Decade, 1971-95 GSC Team of the Quarter Century and earned the honor of being named the 197-95 Offensive Player of the Quarter Century.

As a coach, Hatcher compiled an 76-12 record in seven seasons at his alma mater. He led the Blazers to three GSC championships and the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship. He was twice named the National Coach of the Year, three times the GSC Coach of the Year and GSC Coach of the Decade for 2000-09.

Hatcher is the GSC all-time leader in winning percentage (.864), while ranking fifth all-time in wins (76).
