God’s Great Outdoor Adventures – Kids Hunting for a Cure

loman photo 300KENTUCKY (3/27/13) – Hello again folks. I hope you are having a blessed week. My son, Ethan, and I just got back from Huntingdon, Tennessee, located in northwest Tennessee. We went down to help with the annual Kids Hunting for a Cure Turkey Hunt and Auction.

All the money raised in this event goes to cancer research at St. Judes Children’s Hospital. There are many families, like Rich and Jenny Bratton, that open their homes for folks like myself to stay for the weekend.

The first time I went, I was very nervous about staying with someone I had never met. But, they opened their home and treated me as if I were family. We had a great time. This year was no different. I had arranged to stay with them once again. I really appreciate the whole family for sharing their home. We have kept up with one another through Facebook, but it is amazing how all the kids are growing up. I truly feel blessed to have become great friends with the Bratton family.

Also, the landowners there open up their property for the kids to hunt on the weekend.

Ethan did not harvest a turkey this year, but he did make a lot of friends and had an opportunity of a lifetime by spending some time with other children at the event. Ethan is looking forward to going back with me next year and plans on returning to the area for a day or two this summer.

I did talk to a company there that made the wheelchairs to go hunting on, for the kids and adults. It is my goal for Sportsmen for Christ to raise enough money to buy two chairs. If every person in Hopkins County will donate $1.00, we would have more than enough to purchase the chairs.

I am looking to have these chairs in operation by the Fall of 2014.

We also have our first fishing tournament this Saturday at Mineral Mounds on Lake Barkley. The cost is $40.00 per boat and $10.00 per person for the big bass pot.

Until next week, God bless and be safe!
