soccer3 300HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/1/14) — Hopkins County Central High School graduate Taylor Childress is among eight signees for the Asbury University women's soccer team.

Childress is one of two goalkeepers set to enter the Asbury women's soccer program.

As Hopkins County Central's team MVP in her senior season and an All-District player, Childress adds to Asbury University's key defensive position. She was also a member of the Hopkins County Central girls' basketball and softball teams. Childress' work in the classroom garnered her a place in the National Honor Society and put her on the First Team All-Academic State team three times with an honorable mention award once.

In the classroom, Childress excelled throughout high school. She finished seventh in her class and graduated with honors. At Asbury, Childress plans to study equine sciences while playing soccer.

"I am pleased to add Taylor to the roster," Asbury University head coach Brooke Lincoln commented. "She is easy to coach and will develop quickly. She will be able to provide depth at the goalkeeper position."

Additional Class of 2014 signees for the Asbury University women's soccer team are Brooke Perkins (Goalkeeper, Nicholasville, West Jessamine High School), Megan Hughes (Midfielder, Harrodsburg, Burgin), Anjela Alicea (Defender, Mount Sterling, Montgomery County High School), Mia Wiersema (Forward, Elizabethtown, Central Hardin High School), Alexis Thornton (Midfielder, Terry, Miss., Jones County Junior College), Laura Millis (Forward, New Albany, Ind., New Albany High School), Amanda Jacobs (Defender, Rockford, Ill., Christian Life High School).

The Asbury University women's soccer team is the defending KIAC champion.
