Kidz in Da Zone – My Life as a Carny

KidzZoneMain

OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/24/13) – This is the fourth in a series of columns submitted to SurfKY News from the youth of Majesty Christian Academ y in Owensboro, KY. This article, authored By Cassondra Green, speaks on a child’s life as a carnival worker.

My parents own a carnival called Casey’s Rides. Most of the time it’s fun, because I get to meet a lot of new people. Then, on the other hand, I don’t like it because my parents are gone. On the bright side, my parents get to be home in the winter. The reason they get to be home is because they have to repair rides and trucks for the next season.

When winter comes around, we don’t have as many workers for two reasons. First, we can’t afford it because we don’t have any money

coming in. Second, we have Spanish workers that come to work for my parents on a visa. So, by law, we have to send them home.

In the summer, I have to work a small booth called “Cassondra’s Drink Oasis.” I like working the booth because I get some extra money.  But, sometimes I don’t like it because I HAVE to work, and I’m a kid… So, I’d rather be playing with my friends.

I don’t think I want to be a Carny when I grow up, but I’m not sure. I would love to be a professional figure skater. I

would also love to be in the Olympics, or on “Disney on Ice.”

That is my life as a Carny, and what I’d like to be when I get older.
